DSAT Tec 50

The DSAT Tec 50 course takes you further and deeper and completely immerses you in the world of technical diving. After successful completion of the DSAT Tec 50 course you'll be able to conduct gas-switch extended no-decompression dives, decompression dives and accelerated decompression dives using air and enriched air to a depth of 50 metres. You'll also understand the hazards and risks involved in technical diving, as well as how to prepare for and handle reasonable foreseeable technical diving emergencies.

Prerequisites

To qualify for the DSAT Tec 50, you must be certified as a Tec 45 diver or qualifying certification from another training organization.  You must also be:

• 18 years of age or older. 

• Have a minimum of 100 logged dives of which 20 must be deeper than 20 metres and 15  must be deeper than 30 metres.

Course Details

This program is intended for those divers with  the prerequisite experience and training needed to move into technical deep diving beyond the limits of recreational diving. Its goals are:

• To qualify the diver to make gas-switch extended no-stop dives; decompression stop dives and accelerated decompression dives using air, enriched air and pure oxygen, to 50 metres using technical diving equipment and procedures required to manage the risks involved.

• To train the diver in the motor skills required for technical diving

• To assure the diver understands and acknowledges the hazards and risks involved with technical diving, as well as the limits of the training received in this course.

• To train the diver to prepare for and respond to the reasonably foreseeable emergencies that may occur in this type of diving.

• To provide the foundational skills and knowledge for further training in technical diving.

Equipment Requirements

Since the equipment is such an integral part of the success of a Tec Rec Diver, it is important that  you discuss the equipment with your instructor prior to purchasing it.  Opinions vary, philosophies vary, and some of the equipment you already have may be able to be upgraded for Tec Rec use.  If you have any questions regarding the equipment that you have or may need, please feel free to contact an instructor at Scuba Zone Koh Chang.

• Primary and secondary regulators, one with seven foot hose (approx.) for gas sharing, and one with a Submersible Pressure Gauge (SPG).

• Stage/decompression cylinders each with regulator, SPG, mounting hardware and proper labeling/markings. Two per diver will be required.

• Two Backup decompression cylinders as appropriate and required for the environment (if needed these are available for rental)

• BCD and harness – redundant buoyancy control is required (double bladder BCD or dry suit if suitable for weight of equipment worn)

• Depth gauge/computer and backup depth gauge/computer

• Timing device and backup timing device (can be included in above)

• Proper Decompression information (tables/Nitrox computer) and backup decompression information

• Exposure suit appropriate for environment and dive duration. 5mm will normally be warm enough. Pockets should be attached.

• Weight system (if needed)

• Jon line (if needed for current diving environments)

• Inflatable signal tube

• Surface Signaling device (whistle, mirror etc.)

• Reel (with optional backup)

• Lift bag (bright yellow or per local community practice preferred)

• Knife/cutting device and backup

• Slate

• Backup mask (optional)

• Compass

• Primary Dive Light

• Back up Dive Light

• Oxygen Analyzer (optional)

• Emergency Oxygen (optional, instructor will provide for course)

• Laptop with decompression software (optional)
